At almost 100 years old, Maimonides Medical Center remains a vital and thriving non-profit, non-sectarian hospital. It is the pre-eminent treatment facility and academic medical center in the Borough of Brooklyn.
As a “teaching” hospital, instruction takes place throughout the Medical Center. At the center of the medical center is the Schreiber Auditorium, a 350 seat facility equipped with an assortment of instructional multimedia resources.
Maimonides Medical Center hired McCann Systems to design and integrate their hi-end AV presentation auditorium. The auditoriums AV system consists of four Bose Panaray speaker systems, a Christie DS6k projector accompanied by a 220” motorized screen, and a custom low-profile lectern. The auditorium also features audio and video conferencing, assisted listening system for presentations, and site wide audio and video distribution.
The Bose Panaray system gives the auditorium consistent sound throughout. Above the audio visual control room a custom platform was designed to hold the Christie DS6k projector, two video teleconference cameras, and a spotlight. The AV control booth houses the main equipment rack with all of the presentation and conferencing equipment. Both the control booth and the custom built lectern have touch panels allowing for full control of the system at either location. The ergonomic lectern design gives the user a fully functional platform while providing a full view of the touchscreen and computer monitor.
In addition to the assisted listening presentation system, the auditorium is outfitted with a hi-end audio/video conferencing system. The lectern microphone along with six wireless microphones can be used with the conferencing system, giving anyone in the auditorium the ability to participate in the meeting.
The video cameras placed on top of the control room have pan, tilt and zoom capabilities. Allowing the client to set up a shot while sending a live video of the other camera to the far end participant. The cameras can capture the full auditorium or can be zoomed in on any given location. This feature is also useful for town hall meetings.
McCann Systems designed the system to have audio and video feeds from the auditorium sent throughout the hospital for viewing on TV’s located throughout the hospital AV network.
