A 26′ x 7′ seamless, concave, projection screen with a 3900 x 768 pixel image of New York City is the main set element for News Channel 4’s six and eleven o’clock news. To achieve a panoramic effect, a single piece,.57 gain rear projection screen material was used.
The challenge of creating a single 26′ x 7′ high-resolution scene lies in the critical edge blending and precision curving of four projector images to create one seamless video backdrop. The geometry of these large images had
to be corrected to eliminate key stoning and other distortions. The four synchronized real-time images are stored and played back from a multi channel hard drive player.
The operating system in the studio control center allows producers to conveniently choose and playback from a wide play list of New York City vistas with real time feedback of the selected scene.
