Coca-Cola U Digital Classroom by McCann Systems Allows Team to ‘Share a Coke’
Cloud Based Technology Delivers Hybrid Solution for Virtual Students, On-Site Attendees, Instructors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Atlanta, Georgia, Coca-Cola World Headquarters – As the world around us continues to shrink thanks to technology bringing people together from all around the globe, it is important to adapt our daily tasks to be able to interface with each other. McCann Systems has developed a solution to do just that- and it has been successfully implemented at the Coca-Cola U Digital Classroom inside of Coke World Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
Interacting with Augmented Reality at Work
Inside of a reconfigured conference room, the virtual attendees stack around the back wall and each have a dedicated camera showing their POV as it is on site in Atlanta. In a real-world install of augmented reality, sensors in the room (built into the ceiling) focus sound and video for the virtual students on those that are talking, and, inversely, the sound in the room is zoned so that it seems like your teammate from across the world is speaking directly to you.
Hampton Whatley, Technology Program Manager at Coca-Cola, spearheaded the revolutionary digital classroom on the client side, working directly with Joseph Fusaro, VP Senior Sales Executive at McCann Systems, and Ken Wilt, Operations Manager at McCann Systems. Ken had this to say about the installation: “This is one of the most exciting projects I have ever had the privilege of working on with McCann Systems. The solution is truly a global one, reaching to every country that Coca-Cola has their services.” He continued, “Every participant gets to see the room from their own perspective, feeling like they are actually sitting in the classroom.”
A Single AV Rack Packs a Powerful Punch
The hardware and software – designed, built, and installed by McCann Systems- is completely cloud-based. In a previous McCann iteration HBX Live at Harvard Business School, the room held space for 60 virtual participants built into nine racks on site. In the Coca-Cola U Digital Classroom, because of the cloud-based SaaS solution conceived by McCann Systems, 28 virtual attendees need just a single, quiet, half rack on site to handle two processes: Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for the in-room audio, and network switches.
The on-site, off-site, and presenting participants all share content collaboration by way of iPads or other devices that run an app developed by McCann Systems. This allows anyone, even a remote instructor not in the room, to participate in chats, share their screen, or answer poll questions with live results.
Automation By Default, With an Option to Customize
The room is outfitted with 14 screens 58” in size on the back wall, with each TV sharing two portrait-mode participants. The custom hotdesking allows another 16 participants on site comfortably. The instructor’s side of the room includes a touchscreen, virtual chalkboard that can easily be mirrored to all students. The custom branded Coca-Cola GUI, or Graphical User Interface, was developed by McCann Systems and can be controlled by the instructor effortlessly. Options are easily adjusted on the custom touchscreen, for example: programming the video displays, adjusting the zoned audio, manually changing the point of view and experience for anyone off-site, and even controlling the temperature of the room’s lighting.
