The marquee is one of the most recognizable pieces of American entertainment architecture. Reaching out to the street from the entrance of a theater, casino, or hotel, the marquee has long been a lit board with interchangeable letters, alerting passerby of upcoming shows accompanied by chasing incandescent bulbs.

The New Jersey State Theatre had an idea for an updated LED marquee and trusted McCann Systems to design and develop it. Adjacent to another great McCann project, the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, The State’s new double-sided LED Marquee stretches toward Livingston Avenue, beckoning future patrons.

Using 4.4mm pitch outdoor LED from Absen, two LED video walls were created, each at over 10 feet wide. An Intel media player and a cloud-based signage management system now help the NJ State Theatre change their marquee with a few clicks- much more painless than dragging out the ladder. The new marquee easily and crisply displays critical information and show advertisements on beautiful LED screens, transporting the NJ State Theatre into the roaring 2020s.
