A Recap of Our Experiences at This Year’s Infocomm Trade Show

Every industry has trade shows, and ours is no exception. As a leading commercial AV integrator, we participate in them as well. As with most companies, we continually evaluate why we go to trade shows, what we learned, what connections we made that might not be made elsewhere, and more. This year, we once again participated in Infocomm in Las Vegas, the largest gathering in the professional AV industry. And once again, we learned new things about the latest AV technology news and trends and connected with friends, partners, clients, and more. Here’s our view on this year’s show, why we think it’s worthwhile, and why we’ll keep going.

What We Saw

As with any trade show, there was a lot of new technology on display. However, we’ve learned over the years that some technologies are more exciting than others, and some will transform the industry rather than be a passing fad. What did we get excited about this year at Infocomm? As our own Ben Slattery, our Director of Sales, tells it:

“A major trend we are seeing is the use of LED in more unique spaces to deliver all kinds of content. Transparent LED is very exciting to us right now. Being able to use transparent LED in a lobby to pull viewers in – think of a display on a glass wall or window – while not distracting them from the great cityscape views is something a majority of our clients are looking to incorporate. Also, flexible LED applications are becoming far more cost-effective. While wrapping concave or convex surfaces with flexible LED is not something necessarily new – we’ve done a number of these – with more manufacturers providing this type of product, the price has become more affordable, and the projects with these custom integrations are becoming more and more popular.”

Ben adds:

Another common thread across the booths were the fully integrated camera solutions that automatically track and frame participants. In the hybrid meeting world, capturing who is speaking and when is critical for effective meetings and collaboration. I am really excited to see how this evolves over time.”

How We Connected

Trade shows also have significant social and educational components. We see industry colleagues, partners, clients, leaders, and yes, our competitors too. Infocomm is a great way to connect and reconnect with all these people. To that end, we host an after-show hours invitation-only event where we can nurture these industry relationships. Trade shows like Infocomm are also about learning, and we send a significant contingent to the show to connect with manufacturers and industry experts on the latest commercial AV technology and solutions. As Matt Wilson, our Director of Marketing, puts it:

McCann continues to center its tradeshow and exhibit experiences around InfoComm. We send a large company presence to take advantage of the education, training, technology on the show floor, and networking provided by AVIXA and InfoComm. It is an annual opportunity to bring sales, ops, engineering, and other teams together to discuss the latest AV technology with partners and clients. We also enjoyed spending time with local team members and partners and had a great after-hours social event to reconnect. The Sphere event was fantastic- getting a group of AV pros to gasp in unison is a tall task, and everybody enjoyed the show.”

At McCann Systems, we love connections—whether the technological ones we create for clients through state-of-the-art meeting spaces and video walls or the human ones we develop at industry trade shows like Infocomm.
