Nasdaq is renowned for providing trading, exchange technology, information and public company services, enabling customers to navigate today’s global capital markets. As the creator of the world’s first electronic stock market, its technology powers more than 70 marketplaces in 50 countries. The organization’s most recognizable location, the Nasdaq MarketSite at New York City’s Time Square, is the setting for the ceremonious Opening and Closing Bells, respectively marking the start and end of each trading day. McCann Systems was appointed to design, engineer, and install considerable audiovisual upgrades throughout the ground and second floors.
Visitors are immediately floored by the monumental display of technology when greeted by the tremendous curved 4mm Christie Velvet LED digital display wall. Dynamic content radiates from the massive canvas spanning 36 feet across and 18 feet high, transcending both floors. The infrastructure was custom designed to wrap almost 600 square feet of 3.5 million pixels around a convex corner of the open space. Directional ceiling speakers provide focused audio to minimize echo in the open floor plan.
An LED ticker edges the perimeter of the second floor with 250 square feet of Christie Velvet 4mm LED. Spanning from the studio to the M.I.D. area, 1.45 million pixels glow with the latest stock updates and trends to keep traders informed with real-time data.
Traders are grouped in a space designed for easy and immediate collaboration. Five separate video walls display current financial information and the latest economic headlines. Four of the walls feature 55” NEC LED screens, with one pair set in a 5×3 composition and another pair in a 2×3 format. The final videowall is a 2×2 composition of 55” touch enabled LCD screens. Each trader’s station is connected to a main switcher, allowing any individual to share their desktop to one of the videowalls for immediate presentation or the touch wall for discussion and annotation. Each trader can either view the information on the massive displays or analyze the shared data on their individual desktop.
Various configurations of 55” MultiTaction displays create interactive videowalls throughout the space and give visitors the ability to query additional statistics on any traded company. These interactive resource centers can be found on both the ground and second floors.
During the massive technological overhaul, which took place over the course of 7 months, an interim space was required to ensure business continuity. Provisional conference rooms were outfitted with 90” LED HD monitors and full Polycom VTC systems to allow full functionality throughout the process.
McCann Systems provided the client with a single source solution by designing, engineering, and integrating this complex initiative while ensuring business continuity in the fast paced world of finance and technology.
